I have hunted with Dave and Chikaskia Outfitters for 3 years and have already book for my 4 th. Dave has always taken the extra time before my hunt to scout out the hot areas for the trophy whitetail (or as Dave’s says it “Hammers”). I have hunted with other outfitters but Dave’s scouting and stand placement before my arrival is hands down the best I have ever come across. There are even days when I’m hunting and he is still scouting the other properties to make sure I have the best opportunity to draw back on a “Hammer”.

Dave always has a plan B, C, and D. This is hunting and not shooting. He always has plenty of fresh stands to go to on his excusive river bottom properties. If the “Hammer” doesn’t come by, we can change our plan to the area he may have slipped though. We know he’s there; Dave has pictures of him in that area. Finally, Dave has the only access to these prime whitetail properties. After knowing that and sitting in a tree stand, every snap of a twig, every crunch of a leaf, or even a turn of your head, there could be that monster “Hammer” buck that Dave’s been telling you about.

One evening last year I was hunting and saw 15 different bucks, yet the “Hammer” stayed across the road in the Milo field. A change of plans, and a fresh tree stand, was the ticket the next morning when I got my 150 class. I had watched two other 120 class bucks come into the bait, and then out of the field I saw the 150 class coming toward the other bucks. I had to draw back on him three times before I could take a shot. One time the 120 class was in my way while I was at full draw.

Dave always practices scent control and pays close attention to the wind. He has the stands to accommodate all types of conditions. Dave is a resident outfitter and an avid hunter, but again it is his expertise in the prehunt scouting that gets all of us excited. For there are not that many places or people that put that much work into making sure I have the best chance at the “Hammer” buck he shows in his pictures. I have seen a many of the deer he has described to me before I hunt a particular stand.
